Mischievous Tonttu

In Finnish Mythology we have 'tonttu' - elf. They were usually invisible or at least too fast for anyone to see them, but they are often depicted as small people with beards. They were the protectors of the house and took care of animals if they were treated well, so people left them food. If angry, they would create havoc. Especially in Christmas time it was good manners to leave them porridge, and a bundle of birch twigs in the hot sauna. These days they report to Santa but some of them are much older than him.

So - the two characters are tonttu. Not Santa.
